This week we celebrate the birthday of Jane Austen, author of some serious favorites such as Sense and Sensibility and Pride and Prejudice. Writing during a time when womens' voices were often quieted, Austen wrote and wrote and wrote. She was never famous or rich but she was passionate. She didn't have a dramatic life and actually, considering how wildly popular she is now, we don't know that much about her. What we can know is that she was a woman who dared to question the role of women in society and believed that a woman should have a choice in regard to how she lives her life. I am grateful for women throughout history who in their own special way challenged the status quo to make it easier for the next girl. I hope that I can do the same.
